(Not So) Home at Last
When travel never stops
After being on the road for so long, it is nice to be back at home for more than a week… And this was as far as I got on this blog post about being home before resuming this post in the terminal of my local airport.
I’m writing this with the sound of a Frenchie making all sorts of Frenchie sounds behind me – snorting, snoring, growling, more snorting, panting and even more snorting. An elderly lady behind me just mentioned to the owner that she does reiki for dogs. I’m not completely sure how this works, nor am I sure the dog knows how it works either, but she did something and there was more snorting.
I had intended to be home for more than a week and put away my packing cubes and suitcase. On Monday morning I looked at my calendar again, realized I had to be in Wisconsin later this week and promptly purchased my tickets. When I got to the airport this morning, the TSA agent checking tickets took my ID and asked if I had other flights recently. This is my 82nd flight of the year, so yeah, I’ve had other flights.
Arriving in Chicago started a journey with some unexpected twists and turns (I got lost with my rental car a couple of times). This trip is multi-leg, with a few hundred miles of driving, six hotels, two rental cars, five flights and four airports. The airports will blend, the hotels will fade into distant memories in a week (I hope) but the people I meet and the places I go will last. This trip is about continuing to build something bigger, something that will make a difference to people and our planet across generations. I can’t say more than that, other than that it is damn exciting.
