A Step Down

Convention centers are always strange places to me. They are places that are continuously changing based on the event. Today I’m at a conference on what are essentially flying cars. This is the stuff from The Jetsons that is starting to become real.

Sadly, the convention center that we are in is a bit mid-2000’s. The contrast is striking. Flying cars on the screen, displayed using a projector that is older than some of the attendees. Wi-Fi here is limited at best. My iPad is fine, but my computer can’t seem to connect with any reliability and is struggling with the slow speeds.

Perhaps the biggest issue is the stairs. Most of the sessions are in a theater, and the stairs are deceptively bad. The height is the same, but the widths vary and only every other stair is marked. California is such a litigious state that I would think a personal injury attorney would look at this venue with dollar signs on the mind. I, along with nearly everyone else, managed to stumble down the stairs to our seats. The 7:45 a.m. start is great for the East Coasters, but I’m still gladly in Pacific Time and so I’m still a bit sleepy when I first hit these stairs in the morning.

Can you spot the hidden stairs?
